Does post-racial mean we can’t ask questions regarding race anymore?

Recently, a 7-year-old was suspended from school for asking another student if he was “brown because he was from Africa.” The school accused him of making a racist remark. The idea of being “post-racial” isn’t a reality, though some may believe it is. Under the facade of being post-racial, are situations like this an indicator that we can’t ask a single question about race without being charged with racism?
