I literally laughed out loud yesterday morning when I received an email from Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign email address, which included a desperate plea from Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker to “stand with” him. Of course, I sign up for these mailing lists to stay current on the BS politicians are peddling to their supporters. Nevertheless, keep in mind that when you sign up for a politician’s mailing list, they will often pass your email to their cronies, or as in this case, email you with foolishness on behalf of them.
Now, let’s get back to Scott Walker’s letter… You might be wondering what it means to stand with Walker as his controversy-embroiled governorship may cost him his position in a recall election next week. If you guessed it means making a donation to Walker, then you’re correct!
In the letter he begs, not one, not two, but three times and links the reader to his donation site. And, even though he’ll accept less, Scott Walker prefers a minimum donation of $35, and he wants it right now!
Criminal Defense Fund For Scott Walker
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is the only U.S. governor who has set up a criminal defense fund. That should tell you something about what he sees in his future. Oh yeah, and the money for the criminal defense fund was transferred from his campaign contribution fund–people had no idea the money they donated would be diverted to his criminal defense fund.
Aside from the incessant begging for cash that he’ll undoubtedly use for his upcoming legal defenses, there were a few more things that I shook my head at in the letter. For instance, Walker addresses the letter to “Patriot.” He’s basically saying that if you are a patriot–if you love the United States and want the best for the nation and its people–then you will give him money. Sadly, I’m sure plenty of people will fall for this remedial tactic…
Spin On Why Walker Is Up For Recall
He stopped short of referring to himself as a maverick–probably because of the association of the term with the failed McCain/Palin presidential campaign of 2008–but that’s the tone of his letter. He’s suggesting that he’s being punished for standing up to the fiscal irresponsibility of the “liberal elite.”
No sir, no sir! You’re threatened with a recall for union busting public employees, reneging on a promise to create 250K private sector jobs (Wisconsin actually led the country in job losses in recent months), cutting more that three-quarters of a billion dollars of funding from schools, signing a disenfranchising voter ID bill, adding to the budget deficit by giving tax breaks to corporations (while at the same time cutting services to the people of Wisconsin), and after all of that, locking down the state capitol to prevent protesters from calling you out on your foolishness.
If you can stomach it, feel free to read the full text of Scott Walker’s letter below:
Patriot,
This is it. The Wisconsin Recall election is less than four weeks away.
The liberal special interests and Washington insiders have sworn to spend tens of millions of dollars to defeat me. I need your help right now to beat back this senseless Recall. Will you stand with me today?
For more than a generation in Wisconsin, the power of special interests and the liberal elite have gone largely unchecked. My Administration finally stood up to them, and we changed the way we do things in government in Wisconsin.
That’s why my opponents are so desperate to defeat me in this Recall. They want to roll back the clock and take us back to the days of skyrocketing taxes, bloated budgets, and unchecked and unaccountable spending. We cannot let that happen.
The moment I became Governor, I set about the work that the people of Wisconsin sent me to do. We eliminated the deficit left by my Democrat predecessor. We gave the freedom of choice to public employees. Our reforms have allowed public employees to decide if they would like to spend (in some cases more than a thousand dollars a year in dues) or keep their hard earned money. We finally put the control of state government back where it belongs, in the hands of the people.
I kept my promises to the voters here in Wisconsin. I didn’t raise taxes. We have not had massive lay offs of state workers. Our reforms have balanced the budget and lowered the unemployment rate to a level unseen since 2008.
Now I need you to help me tell the out-of-state special interests that we do not want another tax-and-spend liberal in charge here in Wisconsin.
This Recall is not just about Wisconsin, it is about the cause of reform across this country. It is about deciding what kind of country we are going to be for generations to come. We must send a message that we can and will live within our means. We must not hand power back to a small group of special interests and let them run state governments into the ground across this great nation.
When we defeat this baseless Recall, it will send a powerful statement across our country about the kind of government we want to have and the bold reforms that will get us there.
We have less than a month to go. I need your help – not tomorrow, not next week, but right now.
Today, I ask you to stand with me so I can continue to stand up for hard working taxpayers. Together, we can defeat this Recall and make history – in Wisconsin and across the country.
Sincerely,
Scott Walker
Governor
