Heit (4.5 stars):
The Genius Club is a genius movie! I recommend everyone watch it because of the manner in which the issues of politics, corporatism, energy, scientific/medical research, world hunger, etc are discussed.
The movie is rich in dialogue without much distraction by romantic relationships and grotesque violence or action typical in what seems to be almost every movie today. Through a vast array of characters, the dialogue is presented from a number viewpoints, notably perspectives that are at the heart of many of the problems to be resolved.
Cheri (4.5 stars):
I’d recommend this movie because the notion of asking people to solve the world’s problems made for an interesting plot. While there were some elements of the stereotypical antagonist terrorist, the issues discussed gave me pause for consideration.
Many of the ideas mentioned in the movie are things we frequently discuss on Axiom Amnesia. It’s too bad that this movie didn’t do better at the box office, although it’s not difficult to see why it didn’t: the film seemed low-budget and it addresses many issues people would rather not think about.
Potentially Negative / Plot Issue:
The movie was a bit hypocritical in that the goal of the “genius club” was to prevent an attack on the USA, while the problems of the world that they were challenged to solve were often facilitated but the USA and its allies. In short, the goal was to save one of the entities responsible for many of the problems of the world.
Our Favorite Line:
“Who am I?”
IMDb Synopsis:
Seven geniuses, with IQs over 200, are plucked from their lives on Christmas Eve to try to solve the world’s problems in one night.
